This week, members of our engineering team were on site as Waterloo’s out-of-service Carousel Water Tower was carefully dismantled.
After years of exposure to increasingly severe winds and ongoing roof corrosion, a detailed evaluation determined that decommissioning the structure was the safest and most cost-effective path forward for the community.
Originally constructed in 1910, the tower stood for over a century as part of Waterloo’s infrastructure. The iconic carousel mural was added in 1992, becoming a recognizable local landmark. The tower was last operational in 2017 and was officially disconnected from the water system in 2023.
